MARINE ENGINEER’S STRIKE. SYDNEY, Jan. 6. The shipowners are complaining at w.'iKt' they allege' as inactivity on the part of the Shipping Controller m connection with the marine engineers trouble. They say the vessels of the inteis-State Companies are under control of the Controller, and the owners are powerless to make any move of their own towards a settlement unless Instructed to do so.
QNE WAY TO ACT. SYDNEY, Jan. 6. With a view to getting the ‘Niagara’ away for Vancouver, the Union Company, (which is not controlled by the Shipping Controller) has offered to concede the engineers’ demands, subject to any conditions made in a final settlement between the Controller and the Engineers’ Union. This offer was declined, but negotiations are proceeding.
