ANNUAL SPORTS. TIMARU, January 1. The Caledonian Society’s two days’ sports opened' to-day in calm, overcast weather. There was a large attendance (the gate receipts were over £300), which would have been larger but foilin' threatening weather early in the morning. The sports were the best for jfmrs, and 'tlVpre were no mishaps. The features were the performances of S- Coppin (Timaru), in the sprints, and (J. Getson (Christchurch) in the distance events, and the cycling of Joyce (Wnimnlo). Tlie principal events were: 120yds Handicap—S. Coppin (scr) 1, L. Lewis (Bvds) 2, 8. F. Hanson (7 yds) 3. Nineteen competed. Time, 12sec. 880yds. Handicap—G. Getson (scr) 1, L. Coultero (10 yds) 2, C. 11. Strutters (Go.vils) 3. Twelve started. Time 2mjn 1 3-5 secs.
