SIR E. BORDEN'S SUCCESSOR.
THREE NAMES MENTIONED. VANCOUVER December 16. A message from Ottawa states that with Sir Robert Borden’s resignation in his friends’ hands, opinions of the political leaders differ regarding the prooiejdupre in naming the new Premier. jSir (Robert still appears daily at his office, but several Cabinet meetings were cancelled recently because of his condition, which, though not immediately serious is such' that he would suffer a nervous breakdown with any attempt at consecutive labour. Meanwhile rumour ig busy suggesting that after Sir Robert Borden has enjoyed a long rest he will get the appointment of the Presidency of the League of Nations, or Ambassador to the United States in place of Lord Grey who is going on a trip to England soon.
The names of the most favoured successors to Sir Robert Borden are Sir Thomas White, former Minister for Finance, who resigned several monthg ago; Mr Arthur Meighen, Minister for the Interior, who is only 43 years of age; and Mr Nelson Rowell, Canada’s leading official Prohibitionist. Sir Thomas White, is probably the' ablest man, while Mr Meighen, who is a (Westerner, is being given strong support by the new Farmers’ Party.
