JAPANESE OPINION. TOKIO, Dec. 26
Baron Okuma is strongly in favour of the renewal of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance with such alterations as the League of Nations rendered necessary, if the. United States and Britain act with mutual consideration, the League of Nations may he influential; but if these countries run counter to eacli ' then- the results will be .unpredictable. The temporary collapse of Russia is insufficient to make the Anglo-Japanese Alliance unnecessary. The League oi Nations is unable to secure the abolition of armaments. All nations are now striving to perfect their defences.
ALLIES LATEST NOTE. BERLIN, Dec. 26. The text of the Allies latest Note to Germany indicates- that Germany has conceded that the Treaty applies immediately, despite America’s failure to ratify. COUNCILS RESOLVES. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, December 25. The Supreme Council has received reports of interviews with Lersner. It appears that only German nayal experts who caine to discuss the Scapa scuttlings, returned to Berlin, where they received Instructions in view of the Allies refusing to modify their demands for dock material.
COUNCIL’S RESOLVES. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, Dec. 25. Marcel Hutin states that the Allied representatives are proceeding to Dantzig and other ports to investigate the amount of material at Germany disposal. * The Council adopted the contention dividing mandates over German SouthWest Africa, between Britain and Belgium. The convention relating to the Pacific Colonies has been deferred owing to Japanese requesting time to receive the instruction of their Government before the mandates are definitely settled.
