A ITRIE. WHANGAREI, December 20. i The Dairy Company’s co-operative store at Maungatapere, including the ■ post office, was totally destroyed by fire at six o’clock this morning. The store had just been heavily restocked for Christmas and the loss is therefore heavy. The safes were intact. SEAMEN’S WAGES.. DUNEDIN, Dec. 22. - A lengthy statement of claims for a new agreement has been submitted by the Federated Seamen’s Union to the New Zealand Shipowners’ Association. ; The terms asked are as follows :—Per, . lunar month—boatswain £l6; leading hands in deck department, £l6; quartermasters £ls; lamp trimmers, and A.B. £l6; ordinary seamen, (over 18. years), £11; ordinary seamen, (under 18 years) £9 15s; donkeyman £18; greasers £l7; storekeeper and greaser, £l7; storekeepers £l7; fireman-greasers £lB 10s; fireman £l7; trimmers £l6; crew attendants £l6.
INFLUENZA REPORT. WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. The following cases of influenza were reported between noon on the 15th and 18th of December: — Auckland and North Auckland, 125 Jmild and 8 severe. ; Wellington 17 mild and 4 pneumonic. Canterbury 9 mild and 1 severe. Otago 4 mild and 1. severe. During the week ended December 22nd, 36 cases of influenza 18 cases being pneumonic, were reported i in Wellington Health District. *
