Mr H. Qtlane of Christchurch will be i visiting Hokitika this week; also Mr F. H. Campbell, Rector of the Otago Boys’ High School. Horseowners are reminded that nominations for all events for the Ivokatahi Racing Club’s meeting close to-night with Mr. M. Houston. Mr C. R. Harley (cousin of Messrs H. C. and F. Harley of Greymouth) died suddenly at Nelson at the age of 50 years. He was a well known brewer at Nelson, and son of a former Mayor of Nelson, the late Joseph Harley. All interested in the arranging for the visit and exhibition of trotting by Cathedral Chimes in aid of the Westland “Hospital Building fund are reminded of the meeting at the Town Hall this evening at 7 o’clock sharp to make - the necessary arrangements. A full attendance is desired.
The Allan Wilkie Company concluded i successful season last night when ‘Camille” was successfully staged before a good audience. The Company save a very pleasing performance, in which Miss Hunter Watts and Mr Allan Wilkie scored great successes. The Company left for the north to-day. Last week 3915 tons 18cwt cf coal was exported from Greymouth, the mines contributing as follows:...Liverpool 2690 tons 14cwt; Point Elizabeth, 389 tons llcwt; Blackball 56 tons 18 cwt; Paparoa 234 tons 7cwt; Recfton 86 tons; Brunner 316 tons Bcwt; Konini 142 tons. Mr T. W. Bassett, a returned soldier, and now a farmer of Teremakau Settlement, has kindly donated £2 worth of tobacco, to be distributed aniong the Old People in the Home at Kumara, as a Christmas gift. It was distributed by Mr Berry, Presbyterian Minister at Kumara. Thig kindly gift was received with grateful pleasure by the recipients.
Last evening an old Chinaman dropped dead on the Paroa road about miles south of Greymouth. He was seen by a resident in the vicinity struggling along, when he suddenly fell forward, and on going to investigate, it was found that he was dead. The police were communicated with and had the body removed to tiie Morgue where an inquest will be held. A wedding was sojomuised yesterday at the Greymouth Presbyterian Church by Re,v T, N.
