DISTRESS IN VIENNA. LONDON, Dec. 18.

The committee for the relief of distress in Vienna has' issued a public appeal for funds through the English newspapers. It states that deaths and cases of permanent enfeeblement are occurring on an appalling sale, and that the hospitals a.re reduced to the last extremity. Signatories to the appeal include Earl Haig, General the Earl of Cavan, and General Sir Henry Horne. The Government fully sanctions and approves of the appeal, and "Will give pound for pound assistance. AUSTRIA’S" FAMINE. LONDON, December 18. Mr Barnsworth said in Parliament that the food‘situation in Vienna was critical. There would be no food in Austria after this week' end. The Allies were doing their utmost to hasten relief." Sir A. Fisher, and Hon Air. McKenzie will visit' Paris on Friday to sign an agreement in connection with (lie liberated Austro-Hungarians.

The Supreme Council decided in view of the terrible famine in Austria to send to Austria thirty thousand tons of wheat, that is at present stored by the Allies in Trieste. The Allies will guarantee' revictualling until April, when they will grant Austria a substantial loan or credit.
