Mr Winston Churchill, Minister foi War and Air, in justifying the vote of £50,009 for aerodromes at Cairo, Bagdad, and Karachi, said that these were only the beginning of the aerodromes re quired on the Indian route. The stretch from Cairo to Karachi was considered an important section of the route from London to Australia and could be finished before the rest of the route was finished. They would pro bablv line the ak by squadrons distributed along this section. Apart from defence purposes these aerodromes would prove very convenient for mails and passenger services, and have the effect of buttressing the Empire together. The vote was carried by 224 votes to 40.
