Mr Tom Pollard has earned great kudos in Nelson for his production of the opera “Paul Jones.” A pleasant ceremony took place yesterday afternoon, when Miss M. Duncan, of South Spit, was united in holy matrimony to George Steele, of Ivoiterangi, by the Rev. P. B. Fraser. The bride was attended by Miss Holley as bridesmaid. The Borough authorities have fenced off the eastern portion of Cass Square and closed the entrance gates near the gas-works. As at October 31st last, the number of old age pensioners was 19,840, representing £734,080 a year ; the number of widows’ pensions was 3464, representing £120,880; and the number of military pensions 979, representing £44,942 a year.
