The Westland County Council calls for tenders to-day for removing and renewing defective timber in the Kokntalii bridge. The Council will provide the timber and the tender will he for labor only of the timber placed in position. As the race-meeting will open on Boxing Day—a public holiday—and as special trains at excursion fares will run, there should he a bum per attendance, enhancing the value of the Club’s rights. Mr Reddon M.P., who lias been paying a. flying visit to the Otiia line, speaks at Kokiri to-night and returns to Greymouth for to-morrow when he visits Kaiata and Omoto, and will remain at Greymouth for the remainder of the campaign, except for his visit to Dillmanstown on Monday night to give an address to the electors of the Kumara district. The funeral of the late Mrs Wouldes, of Blue Spur, took place yesterday afternoon. A number of friends gathering to pay a last tribute to the deceased. The Rev. Dr Holloway conducted the services at All Saints Church and the graveside. The public are requested to roll up to the Opera House this evening where Mr McLean is presenting a first class programme as a benefit to the local Band. After having paid for the silver instruments the Band has had to find close on £IOO duty and it is to .be hoped the public will assist this evening by a bumper house.
