Sidey, (Dunedin South-, This js going to he a most interesting contest. Mr C. K. Stathnm (Dunedin Central) and Mr W. Donnie, Stewart, (Dunedin West) are putting op big fights. A keen contest is that for Dunedin North between Mr A. Walker and MrE.Kellett. The silent vote is goh-g to tell in all tho four electorates. The results at present ar6 hard to forecast.

MR HAN AN SPEAKS. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 5. Mr Hanan opened his campaign at the Municipal Theatre before, a large a tendance, Councill Lonquet presiding. The candidate dealt in a general way with political topics, and expressed his approval of most of the planks in Sii .Joseph Ward’s programme, advocating State Bank ,increased Graduated Tax, and increment taxation and a return to pre-war territorial Bystem. Dealing with the cost of living, be declared "that professor Fisher’s scheme of dealing with the value of the sovereign ought to lie given a trial. He said he had been asked if be would take a seat in the present Government if offered it, hut lie declared lie would not. Tho Ghr.il'limn explained the candidate was nut well, suffering from a heart attack, and probably lie would not be able to speak very long. i . Mr Ishe'rwood then rose, and said ho was standing as h ‘Liberal, 'although hot supported by th.e Gibel-al party, or any Trade or profession. The candidate denied a statement ,alleged to have ' been made, that lie was a nominee of the Liquor Trade. Mr Islierwood subsequently announced that he was too unwell to proceed, hut he would address the electors on a future occasion. The meeting then terminated.
