AFTER MANY YEARS

retirement of sergt. folley.

From Monday next Sergt. Folley, in charge of the iHokitika Police District for several years past, retires from the Police Force for four months leave, before eoihpletely severing his connection with the Department. Born near Plymouth, Devon, England, Mr Folley, came to New Zealand in December 1873 and ho joined the Armed Constabulary in January 1880. A few months later lie was sent to Waimate Plains, where road making was in progre :s. * Near the end of 1880 he joined tbe Police Force and with some service at Wellington, Napier, Dunedin and Nelson he has served hi s lengthy term at the several towns of the Coast. During the last six years Sergt. Folley has been in charge of the Hokitika Police District, carrying out his many duties in a. most exemplary manner that has won general approval, while attending to the strict carrying out of the law. He is now retiring after forty years of splendid service during which he has upheld the dfgnity and might of the law, carrying out his duties in a mo t exemplary manner, that has won the general commendation of the community. Mr Folley in his retirement will carry with him the best wishes of the community that bis leisure days will be be spent in- continued good health. It is gratifying to know that Mr and Mrs Foiley are so well satisfied with the tov n that they intend living privately here. Blessed with a good help mate who has won, in her private life also a large circle of friends, and who has tal en a very keen interest, in local public and charitable matters, their many friends will wish them many years of continued good health and happiness, and that they will enjoy the reward of active sendee well and truly done.
