ROSS NEWS.

(Our Own Correspondent.) TENNIS CLUB. . On Monday evening at 7 o’clock a meeting of the newly formed Tennis Club took place in the Coronation Hall when it was finally, decided ,to proceed with the laying down of a Tennis Court on the Recreation ground, Mr D. ' Dooling of Hokitika to be engaged for that purpose. For the purpose of raising funds a concert is being organised by Mr H. Wickes which will eventuate during the coming months. A Euchre tournament and dance is also arranged for to take place in the Totara Hall on Friday 28th inst. The prizes for .the euchre are being donated by His Worship the Mayor (S. P. Evans, Esq.,) who provides the Lady’s prize (silk blouse), and Mr H. Wickes supplies the Gents prize (“Onoto” Fountain Pen). REPATRIATION COMMITTEE. The above Committee met at the Coronation on Monday evening a,t 7.30. Mr Wickes presiding in the absence of the President (S. P. (Evans, Esq.). It was decided, as all of the soldiers belonging to the district had now returned, to prepare addresses of welcome for those wlro had not already received them and to have them presented on a suitable date to be arranged. A letter was received from the Ten- j nis Club asking for four of their week- j ly euchre tournaments in aid of their funds. It was agreed to allow the Ten- ; uis Club to take up the running of the " euchre for December a s per request. ! A sub-committee consisting of Hon. J. Grimmond, Messrs H. Wickes, C. Brice, and A. W. Peebles was set up for the purpose of considering and re- ( porting on the most suitable form of , memorial to erect in commemoration ! of the soldiers who had served their j country in the great war, the committee to report in a weeks’ time. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. The usual weekly tournament took < place on Monday evening in Coronation j Hall and was well attended. Miss! Doris ■ Wickes was Die winner of the j Lady’s prizes (a set of jugs) Mr Ken j McKay won the Gents (a pair of military hair brushes donated by Mr M. Move).

FUNERAL. The funeral of the late Mrs Jones which took place on Tuesday afternoon, 'was largely attended, a number of friends coming from Jlokitika and elsewhere to pay tlieir last respect to ! the memory of the deceased. ! Present —Mr M. H. Lhistrom, (Deputy-Mayor) 1 , Councillors N. J. Phillips,. M. Moye, W. B. Browning, and W. Hamilton. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed and the out- ; ward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. •From Wellington Gas Coy. offering Fire bricks etc. for sale.—Received. From Department of Labour asking for particulars of any Boroughs or Town* Districts the boundaries of which are within one mile of this district. Received. From Mines Department stating a grant of £IOO was now available for repairs to Bench and Donnuglir.es Roads. The Public Works Committee were authorised 'to proceed with the necessary repairs to these roads. From C. Keller, paeroa, notify mosaic of Ross Town Sections to Mr Jrethig.—Received. ! From Treasury notifying remittance j of Goldfields revenue £3 25.; Fees and . Fines £4 7s. ■ on Peace Celebrations account £l9 6 S sd.—Received. j Tlie Finance Committee presented j accounts to the amount of £37 19s 3d. , which were passed for payment. Jones (who for some years was a prominent Councillor) in connection with tlie deat of his wife . . . The meeting then terminated. WEDDING BELLS. On Wednesday a. quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Patrick’s Church by Rev. Father Riordan, , when Miss Mary Ellen Ableson of Ross ( was married to Mr Otto Hahn, sawmill- ; er of Creymouth. Tlie bride who was j given away by her brother Mr J. JAbleson looked dainty attired in a w® I of cream fancy voile over silk, trim- j med with cream silk embroidery and j lace. 'She also wore tlie orthodox wreath and veil and carried a. handsome bouquet the gift of Mrs Moore. She was attended by Miss Alice Moore as bridesmaid who wore a pretty silk dress and black picture hat trimmed with pink roses. She also carried a lovely bouquet. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Harry Hahn as best man. After the ceremony a large number of guests were entertained at the residence of Mr L. Halm when the usual toasts were duly honoured. The newly married couple left m the afternoon, per motor car, for Hokitika en route for Auckland wbeie tlu\ spend their honeymoon. Tlie bride’s present to the brulefrom was a travelling rug and the bridegroom to the bride a gold pendant. The bridegroom also presented the bridesmaid with a wristlet watch. The presents were costly and numerous and many congratulatory messages were received from their numerous friends.
