1 PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY’S RESOLUTION. INVERCARGILL, Nov, 22. ’ Tlie Presbyterian General Assembly this evening discussed Church union, ’ and finally carried by 155 votes t 0.34 a motion by Dr Gibb, expressing ’’ , thankfulness for the remarkable r growth of feeling and conviction favourable to union between this church , n and the Methodist and Congregational Churches, as indicated by the returns l from presbyteries, sessions, and con- ’’ gregations, and confidence that the dee_ sire for union will grow, so that be_ a fore many years pass tbe three ’ churches will be able to form one great , n United Church of New Zealand. It is clear to tbe Assembly, however, that 3 h the feeling for union in this church if not yet sufficiently widespread tt rn justify an immediate effort to open ui negotiations witli the other tw< jl churches, and the Assembly resolve: to postpone deoislon on the point en meanwhile reappointing the Cliurcl Union Compiittee, with instructions t< B n watch and report on all relevant do velopments to the Assembly, and t< ■o- take steps to promote co-operatioi with the two churches, and, further j) i n the evont of the Congregationa Union offering any new proposals ti en consider them and in due course to sub mit them to the General Assembly.
