NOTES FROM WAITAIH.

(From a Correspondent.)

On ’ Thursday'’nrglit last’a :, nibSt ! popd-’ lav dance was held at the- Public Hall. The ladies had charge of the arrangements which no doubt added considerably to the success of the function. • Even the male members of the previous dance committees adiiiitted thilt they were outclassed in every’ detail of the business. M aster MY. Chinn and Mr Jas Cropper had charge of the floor and the music was in the hands of Messrs ElliS and'P. Douglas. At 12.30' an up to date supper was laid, which would do credit to a city. Dancing was kept up till 3 a.m. and all departed with the satisfaction of having a real good time. I must not forget that the hon-dancers were also well catered for. The elder members have a capacious smoke room in which all sorts of discussions are heard. One group will be thrashing out the political question of the day, another discussing pedigree Jerseys or Poly Angus bulls, etc., and another on milk tests etc.

* In this department Mr John McGregor makes a first-class Minister of Ceremonies, and sees that one and all get a fail* and square test etc. 1 The milking season is in full swing, but the wet, cold season;has again kept the herds back'and tire results are-set far behind previous seasons..

! The settlers at Waitaha are now realising that the lime is the right article to improve their pastures and in a’fev years’ time there will be a vast improvement in the production of grass On the settlement.’ ,
