Details of the scheme for joint control of railways are as follows: Mr Thomas and two other Trade Unionists will join the central advisory committee,which supersedes the Government’s Railway executive. The new committee, in addition to formilating a policy, will take an active part in directing railway organisation, though the directors of railway companies will continue to hold their present position. Govern ment trading interests, and the public also will be represented on the committee. Though the scheme falls far short of the railwaymen’s proposals, the men regard it as a great advance towards complete nationalisation and joint control of the railways by the State and Unions alone.
