The funeral of the late Mr M. Hannan took place to Greymouth cemetery yesterday afternoon and was attended by a very largo and Representative gathering from all parts of the district. Mr J. O’Brien Labor candidate for Westland speaks at Kanieri to-night at 7.30 o’clock and at Rnatapu on Friday night. At the latter place ho will bo accompanied by Mr P. G. Webb.

The death took place suddenly at Kuniara yesterday of Mrs Cook, wife of Mr R. Cook. It would appear that deceased was in the act of carrying some chips whfen she suddenly fell backward and expired. The late Mrs Cook who was only about 36 years of age, was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Brayshaw of Kumarfe, and was greatly respected by all who knew her. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., all the /business called was either struck out or adjourned except in the claim of R. Bowen (Mr Murdoch) v R. Wells, claim for £25 and counter claim by R. Wells for £37 9s 'lod. After hearing both parties during which Mr Wells agreed to forego the difference of £l2 9s 10d in the account in view of the special circumstances, a non-suit was j entered as against the plaintiff.

Mr Murdoch, when making an application for protection for four special claims at Rimu, Flat at the Warden’s Court this morning, stated that air American Company with a capital of £400,000 had taken over the option of the Rimu Dredging Coy’s propositions. It was proposed to place on the ground a dredge to cost £IOO,OOO, of 1200 horse power and ivith continuous buckets of twenty feet capacity. It was necessary to obtain the protection asked for to enable the option to he completed.

A meeting of the Hokitika Boxing Association was held last evening, Mr J. J. Breeze presiding over a good attendance. The Secretary stated that splendid entries were already to hand from the northern parts of the district, as well as a large number of local ones, thus ensuring a great success for the tourney.
