WELLINGTON, This Day. THE COUNCIL. The House met at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. BILLS DEALT WITH. Sir F. D. Bell introduced the Industrial and Provident Societies Amendment Bill giving companies power to transform themselves ino Societies under the iict. The Bill was .read a second time and progress was reported from committee, permission being asked to sit again. The Electric Power Works Loan Bill and Railways authorization Bill were put through the final stages and passed. MOTION OF CONDOLENCE. The Council adjourned until 8 p.m. out of respect to the late Mr J. Colvin, with whose relatives the utmost sympathy was expressed by Sir F. Bell and other speakers. MINING BILL. When tli e Council met in the evening, the Mining Amendment Bill was committed. Hon. Thomson said one company protested that it could not obtain feed water drills in the time required by the Bill. Sir F. Bell said they had evidence that drills could be obtained, but he would postpone the clause in order that members might satisfy themslves on this point. A new clause was also postponed and progress was reported on th© Bill. OTHER BILLS. Local Bills received from the House were read, a first time and referred to Committees. The Council resolved to insist on its amendments in Hawke’s Bay River Bill. The Council adjourned at 9.20. p.m.

THE HOUSE. Tlie House met yesterday at 7.30 p.m CONDOLENCE. I’lie House after the transaction of formal business Mr Massey moved the usual motion of condolence in connection with the death of the late Mr Colvin, which was supported by Sir J. G. Ward and' many members, who paid touching tributes to the memory of the deceased member and at 3.36 tlie House rose till 7.30. p.m. as a mark of respect to the deceased. BILLS PASSED. At the evening sitting, the following Bills passed all stages—Land Amendment Bill; Maori Representation Bill; Statutes Repeal and Expiring Laws Continuance Bill; Shearers Accommodation Amendment Bill. The House rose at 2.14. a.m.
