OVERSEAS CONCERT.

There was a very enjoyable concert at the Town Hall last night under the auspices of tlie Hokitika Branch of the Overseas piulr to mark Trafalgar Day. TJu- Overseas orchestra was a feature of the bright programme submitted and its three numbers delighted the audience. The opening piece was a waltz selection from the “Pink Lady.” This was followed by a very melodious so lection from the “Arcac I: ans,” and the closing item was a musical merange of popular airs—all very much appreciated.

The vocal, items were very amok to the taste of the audiences and were roundly applauded, humorous laughing song brought down the house, and earned a double encore. The soloists were Misses Heenan and Reynolds, Messrs M. Johnston and W. Close, while a vocal quartette was another popular number. Mr W. A- Berry was to the fore with some bright monologues excllent given and heartily enjoyed. During the evening the Rev. A. Purchas gave a pithy address on ‘Loyalty, and handed the Hieme with convincing impression. Mr Purchas spoke of the need for continuous service in regard to loyalty as a means to ensure! good citizenship. The accompanists for the performers were Misses Daly, Criese and M Lawn,' and the performers were thanked by Mr Evans, (Presi_ dent) who announced another concert for December when Mr Berry was arranging to put on a playlet “Bardell v. Pickwick” an aimishig breach of promise case. The singing of the National Anthem closed the proceedings.
