LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
The following letter has been received by the Westland County Council from the Hon. Minister of Lands in respect to land for soldiers in Westland. “i am in receipt of your letter of the I6th inst., in which, by direction of 3 r our Council, you urge an early decision respecting the acquisition of small estates in the district that are at present under consideration; and have to advise you that I am communicating witli the Chairman of the Land Purchase Board to ascertain the position. “I have noted your general remarks in regard tot the acquisition of land on the West Coast for soldiers, and have to advise |you that in the Land Laws Amendment Bill to be brought down this session, provision vill be made for the re-constitution of the Land Purchase Board. It is proposed to have local purchase boards in each of the land districts in the Dominion, with a controlling Board at Wellington. If this legislation is passed, I feel that it will result in all offers of properties being dealt with expeditiously and satisfactorily, and it should overcome the difficulties set out in your communication.”
