FIRST DAY.

GREYMOUTH, Oct. 27

The spring meeting opened on Saturday in perfect weather and large attendance—the altered track being used for the first time. The course was in good order, but the grounds were very dusty. Tire results were as follows: Peace Handicap.—Henry Tracey 1, Fore 2, Lord Agapanthus 3. Eight started. Won comfortably by four lengths. Time 3.47 2-5. Blaketown Handipap.—Gulverden 1, Emerald Green 2, Arran Lad 3. An easy win. Time 5.27 2-5, Mawhera Handicap.—Saints Bell 1, Coal King 2, Young Dillon 3. Eleven started. Won by three lengths. Time 3.46.

Amateur Handicap 1, Ashley 2, Arran Lad. Ten started. Won easily. Time 3.57. Diggers’ Handicap.—Fore 1, Warfare 2, Smithy Dillon 3. Eight started. Won .easily. Time 2.25. Petrie Handicap.—Gaychild 1, Bloom 2, Marvolo 3. Eight started. Won by four lengths. Time 2.38 4-5. Bunda-. berg was a starter in this event, but before the horses lined up at the clock, an Accident to his gear caused him to take fright, and he careered off the track. His driver, F. Gilbert, was thrown and received a nasty shaking. The horse was thereupon withdrawn from the event.

Aviation Handicap.—Dixie Lee 1, Ited Prince 2, Peony 3. Eleven started. Won easily. Time 2.26 3-5. Park Improvement Handicap.—Dunstable 1, Gulverden 2, Simple Peter 3. Eleven started. Won easily. Time 4.5 3-5.

SECOND DAY. There was another large attendance yesterday and perfect weather. The sum of £7617 10s was passed through the totalisator on the first day and £9889 on the second day, making a total of £17,566 10s for the meeting. The following are the results:— Tradesmen’s Handicap. Fore 1, Prince Charlie 2, Cole Drift 3. Five started. Won easily by four lengths. Time 5.4.

Gieseking Handicap.—Osier 1, Rose Tracey 2, Culverden 3. Seven started. Time 5.6 1-5.

Hurricane Handicap.—Golden Pippin 1, Mass Marion 2, Warfare 3. Won 'easily. Time 2.27. Labour Day Handicap.—Orange Pippin 1, Mykot 2, Dixie Lee 3. Won by the narrowest of margins. Time 5.6. ; Ngahere Handicap—Marvolo 1, Bloom 2, Gaychild 3. Won by a length. Time 3.56 3-5.
