It is notified in General Headquarters instructions just issued that the home service branch of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will cease to exist as from October 31,

1019, and all men at present actualjy employed under that status will be disposed of as follow: All members of the home service branch, N.Z.E.F., discharging duties of a clerical nature: (a) will be demobilised ; (b) will, if their services are still essential, be transferred to the ' temporary civil staff and be placed under the control of the Public Service Commissioner. A-list of the individuals in districts to he disposed of in this manner, together with a statement as to the remuneration they have been receiving, must bo forwarded to the Director of Financial Services at once. All members of the home service branch, N.Z.E.F., discharging duties of a military nature: (a) will be demobilised(b) will, if their services arc essential, ,b.e transferred.as temporary members of an appropriate permanent unit of the New Zealand Military Forces for as long a period as their services may be required. It should be distinctly understood that men subsequently enlisted as temporary members of any permanent unit of the New Zealand Military Forces are not, entitled to the 28-days’ pay granted to members of the home service branch, N.Z.E.F.-on demobilisation, but will give or receive, as the case may be, 14 days’ notice of the termination of their employment excepting always -that, in cases of misconduct, they remain subject to summary dismissal. In the case of those transferred from the home service branch, N.Z.E.F., under the provisions of this order, the existing right to 28 days’ pay on demobilisation will be preserved and granted on discharge whenever that may occur, providing said discharge is not the result of the soldier’s misconduct.
