PARLIAMENT

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.) WELLINGTON, This Day THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met yesterday at 2.30. p.m. BILLS INTRODUCED. The following Bills were received from the House of Representatives and read a first time National Provident Fund Amendment; Native Township Amendment Bill; Counties Amendment; State Forests Amendment; Police Offences Amendment. WOMEN’S RIGHTS REJECTED.

Sir F. Bell moved the second reading of the Women’s Parliamentary Rights Bijl, (No. 2). After a debate the Bill was rejected by 18 to 8.

OTHER BILLS. The Education Bill was put through the final stages and passed. Progress was reported on the Expeditionary Force Bill and the Council rose at 10 p.m .

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Mr Massey gave gave notice of his intention to introduce the Shearers Accommodation Bill. LOCAL BILLS PASSED. The following local hills were put through' all stages.—Wellington City Abattoir Charges and Renewal Fund Bill, (Mr Luke); Greytown Borough Loan Empowering, (Mr Hornsby); Wairoft Harbour Board Empowering and Loan Bill, (Hon. Sir J. Findlay); Westport Technical School Site Bill, (Mr Colvin); Waimakariri Harbour Board Reserve Bill, (Hon. Buddo); Tolaga Bay Harbour Bill, (Hon. MacDonald), Hutt Railway and Road Improvement Bill, (Hon Sir W. Fraser). NAURA ISLAND The Prime Minister moved a motion to ratify the Nauru Island agreement, which was agreed to after a debate PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT.

At the evening sitting, the Public Works Statement and Estimates were land on the table. OTHER BILLS. The Railways Authorisation Bill and Electric Power Works Loan Bill were introduced and read a first time. The Marriage Amendment Bill was put through all stages and the second reading of Undesirable Immigrants Exclusion Bill was agreed to. The House rose at 10.54 p.m.
