EPIDEMIC FIGURES.
DEATHS EROM INFLUENZA IN NEW ZEALAND.
In the annual report of the Public Health Department, which was laid on the table of the House of Representatives yesterday, are included some interesting figures of last year’s epidemic. During 1918 the number of Europeans who died from influenza in New New Zealand was 5,559. Figures for five years before that were:— - 1913 56 1914 63 1915 110 1916 73 1917 38 ' Last year 5,471 of the deaths were in the last three months of the year, the weekly record ranging from three in the year ended October 3rd to 1860 in the week ended November 25th, and down again to 21 in the last week of the year. The native death-rate in the same three months was 1,130. Deaths per 10,000 of mean population were : —European 49.6 ; native, 22.6. Except for people over 95 years of age, the death-rate was heaviest between the ages of 35 and 40.
