The Legislative Council met yesterday at 2.30. p.m.
NEW BILLS
Sir Francis Bell gave notice of liis intention to introduce a Women’s Parliamentary Rights Bill (No 2.) The Housing Bill was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Commission.
The following Bills received from the House of Representatives were read a first time: Treaty of Peace; Internal Affiairs; Public Health Amendment; Expeditonary Force Voting. Tauranga Borough Council Electric, Loans Empowering, and Manawatu County Loan Empowering Amendment Bill, were put through their final stages and passed. * CADET SYSTEM.
Hon. Hardy moved: “That it would be in the best interests of the Dominion if Government would re-establish the cadet system that obtained in the national schools before 1912.” Sir F. Bell said that as a member of the Government which had abolished the Junior Cadet System, he could not be expected to declare in its favour. Any resolution of the Council, however, would he treated -with due respect .by the Government of the day. The motion was carried on the voices without dissent. The Council adjourned at 4.15 p.m.
THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m'. yesterday. NEW BILL. On the motion of Hon. Hines, the Marriage Amendment Bill was introduced and read a first time. PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT Sir Wm. Fraser said the Public Works Statement would he laid on the table on Thursday, and the Mines State meat' in the course of a few days. OTHER BILLS. The Native- Affairs Committee recommended the Native Townships Bill be allowed to proceed with an amendment. EDUCATION BILL. Hon. Guthrie moved the House go into Committee on the Education Amendment Bill, the second reading of which was moved pro-forma. A lengthy discussion ensued hut the Bill was finally passed through all stages unamended. Hie House rose at 1.34 a.m.
