AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Hokitika brandx of the Canterbury .Automobile Association was held on Saturday, the 18th inst., Air G. Davidson presiding. . _ Inward and outward correspondence was read and approved. A cheque from the head office for £SO 7s was received for payment of timber for the construction of the CallaghansWaimea bridges, which -bridges are a -great convenience to motorists. It was decided to hold future meetings on tlio, second Saturday of each month at 8 p.m. The-election of officers resulted : —Mr G. Davidson, chairman; Mr G. Seale, treasurer; Mr W. Robinson, secretary; committee, Messrs Perham, Stopforth, Speed, Nancokivell and Simpson. , A discussion ensued in regard to the proposed County charges for motors, It was recognised that a charge was necessary to provide funds for, better road construction, that is providing the proposed charges were to be used to provide better machinery for road repair. The charge of £l*s for - ears plying for hire was thought to be excessive; it was decided to await the conference with the County Council before fixing any definite charge. The licensing of all drivers was approved. . The secretary was instructed to write the County Council in regard to the repair of the road at the foot of Morris s Hill at Ka.nieri, which is dangerous to traffic in wet weather; also in regard to the dangerous corner at the northern approach to the Mikonui.river bridge, as the' sawmill locomotive. cannot he, seen approaching the bridge by any driver of a- vehicle on the bridge owing to a piece of the hank cutting obstructing the view. A vote of thanks was passed to the Groymouth branch for their endeavours to get the road from Kumara station to Awatuna finished.
