SEARCH FOR SOVEREIGNS. , MELBOURNE, October 17. A syndicate has located the wreck of the ship “Monumental City,” which was lost off Gabo Island in 1854. A search is proceeding for 150,000 sovereigns rumoured to be aboard, though there is considerable doubt as to the correctness of tTie riinioiir.

The Opposition press is discussing the action of the Hon. T. J. Ryan, in retaining- the Queensland Premiership until a. successor'is appointed, after resigning his seat in the Assembly. Though this is - adversely commented upon it is admitted that Mr' Ryan lias acted within tlie letter" of the constitution. It is.argued that he lias ignored the State Governor, to whom it is contended he was in duty hound to tender his resignation as Premier. PORT DARWIN AGITATION. The town is quiet. No further action has been taken on either side.
