SPEECH BY PREMIER.

(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) 1 AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION^

(Received This Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. IG. Hon. Lloyd George added that the perpetuation of the spirit of war was fatal to industry. The worst was over and ho could now see symptoms, even in the most desperate areas, of the coming peace. We must also have peace at homo ,to secure production, and must have everybody working with goodwill. To secure goodwill, there must be confidence that its enterprise would be fairly remunerated, and labour must feel confident that it will share in the reward of prosperity, and feel it is a real partner in the business .

Hon. Lloyd George, referring to Germany, said it was' not the British habit to hurry, nag, insult and trample down a beaten foe, who had acknowledged defeat. As long as Germany confirms to the conditions of the peace terms, we must give the enemy a fair chance to lead a decent, and prepare for an able and honourable This was to the interest of the whole world, not merely Germany. He concluded by urging the imperative need of a good understanding between capital and labour, towards which Government could do but little. The Premier emphasised the necessity of a greater industrial use of machinery and also of electricity.
