A meeting of citizens, presided over by the Mayor, resolved : “ Having tried the system of administration in Northern Territory by an Advisory Council and found it abortive, how demands the appointment of a Council with executive powers.” The meeting appointed a deputation to interview Mr Carey, Director of the Territory, Mr Evans, the Government Secretary, and Mr Justice Bovan, and to ask them to resign and leave the Territory by the first steamer. A later message states the Director, in order to avoid a revolution, promised to advise tho Minister for Home Affairs that they are leaving by the next boat.
