Smith claims lie arrived at New York from San Francisco sooner than Maynard arrived at San Francisco from New York. Smith’s time was 24 hours thirty minutes. Maynard hopes later to cross the continent in a special machine, in two days. SEVEN FLIER SUCCEED. NE WYORK, Oct. 13.
It is reported that five trans-Contin-ental fliers from Mineola, New York, have so far arrived at San Francisco, and that two have arrived at Mineola from San Francisco, making a total of seven fliers who have completed the one way in the journey . It is announced from' Washington that fliers will now he permitted to return in 48 hours after competing ouc way.
FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA. LONDON, Oct. 14. Surprise developments threaten to postpone the departure of aeroplanes for Australia. The Air Ministry has informed the competitors to-day that it finds the supplies of petrol at several essential aerodromes cn route to India arc insufficient. Matthews intends to defy the Air Convention by Hying over Germany and landing in Serbia, Roumania and Turkey on the journey. . OFF TO MELBOURNE. PARIS, October 14. Poulet again started on his flight to Melbourne at seven this morning. The weather was splendid.
