SOLDIERS’ GRATUITY. WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. The Minister of Defence has received many enquiries regarding the payment of the gratuity in respeefc of deceased soldiers. For general information therefore it is stated that where a soldier has died while a member of the Expeditionary Force or after being honourably discharged from the Expeditionary Force, payment of the gratuity is limited to bis widow, children, father or mother in terms of Section 7, (sub-Section 3), of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918. WELLINGTON, September 28. It has been announced that payments of war gratituities will commence through the Post Office Savings Bank next week, in accordance with the conditions announced by the Minister of Defence in Parliament. Many thousands of applications have already been received.

LORD JELLICOE. ROTORUA, Sept. 27. Lord and Lady Jellicoe and twentyfive officers arrived last evening and ■had a hearty reception. Returned soldiers drew Jellicoe’s car to Waiwera House. This morning Jellicoe visited King George Hospital and was welcomed by the Maoris of Ohinemutu who presented an address. This afternoon the Admiral will be welcomed by the Arawas at Whakawerawera. A large gathering is expected and speeches and dances will be given. The party returns to Auckland on Wednesday.
