[rSE PUEStt ASSOCIATION. —COPTEIQHT.] WELLINGTON, This Day, THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met yesterday at 2.30. p.m. % BILLS READ. The Board of Trade Bill was received from the Lower House, and read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Land and Income Tax Annual Bill was put through all stages and passed. • •

The Payment of Jurors Bill was committed, read a third time and passed. REPLY TO QUESTIONS.

In reply to Mr Garland, Sir F. Bell said very strict and comprehensive regulations to deal’ with the menace of the cattle tick had been prepared,, and would be gazetted at once. In answer to Mr Geddes, he said that applications for positions of Director of Forestry and Assistant Director of Forestry, would close next month. Applications had not been called in the Dominion, on account of the qualifications The Council adjourned at 2.46 p.m.

THE HOUSE. The House met yesterday, at 2.30. p.m. Hon. W. F. Massey intimated that on and after Monday next, the House would sit on Monday at. 7.30 p.mi, for the transactions of Government business. BILLS READ. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Betterment Bill, (Mr McCallum); Compulsory residence on State Leaseholds Bill, (Hon. Buddo). On the motion of Mr Massey, the Industries Committee was reinstated, heir work not being completed.

READ A SECOND TIME. The following Bills were read a second time, after a brief debate:— Kauri Gum Industry, (Hon. Guthrie); Auckland University College Site Bill, (Hon. Massey). FINANCIAL' STATEMENT. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., Sir J, Allen read the Financial Statement. The reading of the Statement was concluded amidst applause. The ''debate was fixed for 1 Tuesday next. The House rose at 9.30 p.m.
