WELLINGTON, Aug. 29. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m.

BILLS READ

The following Bills were read a firs time and a second time proforma, anc referred to the Statute Revision rioiu mittee:—

The leader of the Council, (Sir F. Bell) announced that Jio hoped to be able to bring down on Tuesday, a resolution approving of tlie ratification by the Ring of the Treaty entered into at Versailles. The Council then adjourned until o p.m. The Council met again at 8 p.m., uid"passed the Expiring Laws Contiim:nce Bill through all stages without discussion.

Wright). Westport Technical School Site, (Hon J. Colvin). Naturalised Subjects Franchise, (Mr Brown). PAS.SE7D ALL STAGES. The Expiring Laws Continuance Bill was introduced by Governor’s message. Hon. W. F. Massey explained the Bill merely proposed, to keep alive i number of Acts already passed by tlie House. The principal quost’on in the Bill was the perpetuation of the -Mortgages Extension Act for twelve months. This was most necessary, as otherwise that Act would expire on Sunday.

After a lengthy discussion the Premier agreed to strike out all provision of the Bill, except those dealing with .Mortgages Extension Act. and in this form the Bill passed all stages.

MOTIONS OF SYMPATHY. The Premier then moved the usual motion, expressing the high sense of appreciation of the services to the Dominion, and sympathy with the relatives in connection with the deaths of tlic following former members of the Legislature: — Hon. A.L.D. Eraser ; Hon. Donald Reid; Hon Thomas Thompson; Mr Jackson Palmer; Mr B. M. Taylor, Mr S. Button, .Mr AY. J. Speight; Mon. W. 11. Tucker and Hon. Hamilton Gilmer.

Many members spoke in sympathetic terms on these motions, which wore agreed to. As a mark of memory of the deceased members, the Mouse rose at 4.30 p.m., till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
