HOKITIKA REPATRIATION COMMITTEE.

MONDAY, AUGUST 25th. A mooting of the above Committee was held at 3 o’clock. Present: Messrs Perry (Chairman), Duff, Davies, Breeze, Murdoch and Hon. Grimmond.

From same thanking Committee for notice of carpentering and painting work in South Westland.—Received. From same, noting with pleasure that Mr Evans was to continue as Secretary of the Hokitika Committee. — ■Received. From same, forwarding cheques. Received. From repatriated soldier, expressing thanks for the prompt manner in which his business had been dealt with. APPLICATIONS.

From returned soldier in the south, application for £SO for furniture loan. Received; to be recommended as soon as the. application form is in order.

From local soldier applying for £SO for business proposition.—Declined. From local soldier, application for £3OO for sawmilling enterprise.—Received; applicant was heard and it- was resolved to recommend same, subject to being satisfied with the details of the proposal. A request for a subsidy grant towards a memorial tablet was declined, the matter being outside the scope of the Committee.

The Secretary reported there was a hairdresser’s business, capable of giving a lucrative return to a tradesman in a northern town. It was resolved to make enquiry through the Returned Soldiers, if there was a tradesman available for the opening. The Chairman was empowered to deal with a local case recommended for technical training, if approved by the Christchurch Office.
