EXCELSIORS V. RIVALS
There was only a small number of spectators on Cass Square on Saturday afternoon to witness the above match which resulted in a win for Rivals by 9 points to 6. For the winners Bethune and Duncraft scored while another try was allowed owing to a spectator wilfully interfering with the play when a try was practically a certainty. For Excelsiors Aitken and McDonald scored. The play was not of a very high class. Mr Pritchard was referee.
! WEST COAST v. INANGAHUA. ! This inter-union fixture took place at Grcymouth on Saturday and result- ' ed in a draw, three points (a try), each. The game was a very fast and interesting one. McEhvee scored for Inangahua and Reynolds was awarded a tiy I following interference by a Reefton : player.

LEAGUE MATCH.
VISITORS WIN EASILY
WELLINGTON, Aug. 21
The League football match, Australia v. Now Zealand, was played yesterday in the Basin Reserve. The weather was line and the ground was in good order. There was a large gathering of the public. The game, which was a fast and open one, resulted in a victory for the Australians by 44 points to 21.
Both sides made many fine passing rushes. The tackling was good also. The game was by no means a onesided one. The home team made many attacks, though often they proved fruitless.
For the winners Johnston showed out. He started many of the Australian passing rushes and showed great initiative.
Oxford’s place kicking was very fine indeed.
AUCKLAND DEFEAT TARANAKI AUCKLAND, Aug. 23.
The representative Rugby football match between Auckland and Taranaki was played here today in the presence of about ten thousand spectators. The game needs little description, Auckland winning by 42 points to 9.
HIGH SCHOOLS -MATCH. AUCKLAND, Aug. 23. New Plymouth High School defeated Auckland Grammar School yesterday by 10 points to 6. The visitors were a fine team, although the game was somewhat of a scrambling one.

The Rugby Union lias so far failed to obtain a reply to its cables inquiring regaring to future movements of the New Zealand Football Team now in South Africa. In the event of their visiting Australia in time to play bo fore the second week in October, a match will be played, but not later.
CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 25
The deciding game in the Christchurch Rugby Senior Cup competition took place on Saturday. The contesting teams were the Linwood and Marist Brothers Old Boys’ Fifteens and there was great excitement. The match resulted in a victory for the Marist team by 14 points to (i.
