MASSEY'AND WARD. DUE ON MONDAY. [PEB PBEBB ASSOCIATION.—COPYIUOHT. | WELLINGTON. July 30. Sir Janies Allen stated to-day that In had been advised that Mr Massey and Sir Joseph Ward will arrive in Auckland on Monday next. No Ministers, he said, would go to Auckland to meet them, becaues all were busy n Wellington. Sir James Allen thought it probable that Mr Massey and Sir Joseph would leave Auckland by the Pateena on Tuesday, arriving in Wellington on Wednesday.

GENERAL. ELECTION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 30. Mr H. Holland, ex-Mayor of Christchurch, was waited on to-night by an ■influential deputation and asked to contest the Christchurch South Seat at the general election. Mr Holland agreed to do so. He stated that they would have to take him on trust as far as his political bearings were concerned, a? tie could not yet declare which party be would support. He would not, however, stand as an Independent as he recognised that, under the party system a:i independent member was of no use.

A general meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association to-dny was attended by 500 members, who deckled, practically unanimously to endorse a new political platform embodying party action. Tile platform wa.- recently framed by the Association’s Provincial Committee.

A resolution was passed in favour of the New Zealand Association’s Constitution being amended to permit of political action and asking that a special New Zealand conference be called to consider the platform, ns endorsed h.v the meeting
