AN EXPECTED COUP AT BERLIN, LONDON, July 25.
There has been a remarkable military demonstrations at Berlin during the past two days, which suggest that a reactionary coup is imminent. The Iron Division marched into the city with banners flying. They halted :P the Bismarck monument. The band then played the Kaiser’s Hymn. Similar military demonstrations throughout the country are reported indicating the growth of the counte-re-vol utionary movement.
FORCED LOAN PROPOSED. LONDON, July 26. The Cologne “Gazette” states:—The German ’Government is projecting a forced 2 per cent loan for ten thousand million sterling. R.EPARATION WORKERS. LONDON, July 26. Von Siemen has dismissed ten thousand of the men on rpparation work for refusing to work owing to the dismissal of the leaders for. organising a geperal strike on the 21st inst. A Swiss hanker estimates seventeen hundred millions worth of scrip belonging bo 'the German*, including the Kaiser, and four hundred millions worth belonging to the Austrians had been lodged in Switzerland during the war, with a, view to evading heavy post-war tn>j : atipn. It is expected that Austria and Germany will introduce laws declaring the scrip valueless, unless it is newly stamped.
