At the Supreme Court to-day Frank Morris for forging a withdrawal slip for £lO on the Christchurch Post Office Savings Bank, was ordered to be '■ detained for two years’ reformative treatment. Clarence Henry Becks, formerly a postal officer at Kaiapoi, . for theft of three postal packets, got .12 months’ reformative treatment. The Probation Officer’s report on the prisoner was good, but Justice Herdman said it was his practice to treat offences against the Postal Depart- | meat as serious, as the public confidence in the Post Office must not be disturbed. William Downes, for theft of a rug, received six months. Anidrew Lamb, alias Andrews, for issuing valueless cheques, was sentenced to three years, and declared an .habitual criminal.
