TRIBUTES TO HIS MEMORY

Reference to the death of Sir John Denniston was made by the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court. Sir Robert Stout said that he did not desire to say anything about the late Judge at that juncture except that ho had been a personal friend for fifty years. The announcement of his death had come as a great shock to him and he felt the greatest sympathy for the family in their great loss. The Court then adjourned till to-
morrow. Tributes to the late Sir John Denniston were paid by Bench and Bar at the Supreme Court to-day. On the Bench were the Chief Justice and Justices Edwards, Chapman, rsim and Stringer. The legal profession among whom were the Minister for Justice, and the Attorney-General was largely represented.
Three Wellington Magistrates were also present. ! Sir Francis Bell eulogised the character and work of the late Sir John Denniston, and Mr Skerrett, K.C., as representative of the general body of, the legal profession added a tribute to a just judge. * 1 The Chief Justice speaking with emotion, referred to his long friendship with Sir John Denniston, one of the most careful of judges. j
