HOKITIKA REPATRIATION COMMITTEE.

THURSDAY JULY 17th.

The above Committee sat at tho County Chambers at 2.15 o’clock. Present: Messrs G. A. Perry, (chair), T. W. Duff and D. J. Evans, Lieut. Davies and Hon. J. Grimmond. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence was approved.

INWARD ORRESPONDENCE. From Repatriation Office, Christchurch, forwarding copies of agenda paper, as also amendments to demobilisation regulations, particulars of correspondence course; soldiers’ handbook ; lists of returning men; procedure Regarding granting of loans and other official matter.—Received. From same forwarding cheques for loans and other grants.—Received. From same supporting completion of loan for purchase of motor-car for d i strict.—Received. From same notifying loans approved by the Board.—Received.

From sodiers thanking Committee for assistance given.—Received. From soldiers explaining inability to take up employment offered.—Received. APPLICATIONS FOR LOANS. From discharged soldier asking for further loan to extend business.—Received and •on consideration held over for a month to await developments. From two returned men jointly asking loan for the purpose of establishing a motor delivery business. —Received and regret expressed that tho application could not bo recommended at this juncture as two other soldiers had been established lately in similar business, and there did not appear to be room for further competition. From discharged man applying for £l5O loan to procure a dwelling on land held under mining title, and £SO for furniture. Received.—Favourable report as to value of the property was received from an independent source, and it was resolved to favourably recommend the loans.

From discharged man applying for loan to pay off a £SO loan raised to shift family when called into camp last September.—Received and resolved to forward to tho Repatriation Board with a favourable recommendation if a loan for this purpose can he granted. From discharged man applying for sustenance grant while learning a mechanical trade. —Received and recommended favorably to the Committee at Dunedin, where applicant is employed. From discharged man applying for a loan of £IOO for the purchase of stock—Received and regret expressed that the loan could not he recommended ns applicant did not hold any land in his own right where the stock could depasture.

GENERAL

Consideration of tho Secretaryship was deferred till next meeting to await a report from the Comity Council. The meeting then concluded.
