Mr. E. C. Eliot, Resident Commissioner of Gilbert and Ellice colony interviewed, strongly urged that some form of federation or cohesion was urgently required in the Pacific Islands.

REMITTING SENTENCES. MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr Miller announced that Government as decided to remit all unexpiied naval and military sentences, in cases of summary conviction, and a generous remission of sentences in the case of those courtmartialled. Cabinet has decided to remit one fifth of the period of all sentence prisoners, irrespective of the length of the sentence. ADELAIDE, Tliis Day. Government has announced the remis sion of portion of the sentence of prisoners.
