ARE WOOL PRICES FAIR. WELLINGTON, July 15.
The Board of Trade has convened a conference of representatives of the woollen companies in New Zealand to he held at Christchurch on August 21st. to enable the Board to discuss with them the prices they charge for their goods and other relevant matters.
MILITARY OFFICERS’ DEATH AUCKLAND, July 15.
An inquest concerning the death of Captain A. Duval of the Army Ordnance Department, who was found dead in the laboratory at the Mount Eden Ammunition Works on July 3rd, was concluded to-day. The Co roner returned a verdict that death was the result of a gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted while in a state of nervous depression.
WOMEN HEALTH PATROLS. CHRISTCHURCH. July i 5. • Hon. G. W. Ilussell announces that the following appointments of Women Health Patrols have been mae by the Public Health Department: Wellington: Mrs C. J. Elliott. Christchurch: Mrs M. Stringer and Mrs C. Clough Dunedin: Mrs M. A. Cameron ami Mrs J. Murray.
These ladies will take up their duties on Monday next, July 21st. The Auckland appointments have not been finally decided upon. The other Wellington appointment has yet to be made.
Hon. Mr Russell said the primary object in view was to conserve the health and general welfare of young persons of Hath sexes. These ladies would be officers of the Public -wealth Department and would be under the .direction of the District Health Officers, hut for 'special (purposes they, vvould be invested with the powers of the police, and these powers would he used, where necessary, to make inquiries with regard to any matters that called for accurate information as to houses and their occupants.
FOOTBALL .MATCHES HELD UP. WELLINGTON, July 15,
The management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union to-night set up a committee to consider the advisableness of postponing tlie representative fixtures, owing to the curtailment of the railway services, and to consider facilities for travelling. It was decided that Uo Rugby fixtures should be played on Saturday.
The Tramway Club was granted permission to send a team to Auckland to compete for the Kohcn Shield.
