WEST COAST RUGBY UNION
A meeting of the above was held at • Groymouth. on Wednesday. I A protest received from the Marist Club against the Stars for playing three players over age in a fourth grade match was upheld and the game was ordered to be awarded to the Marists. A player ordered off the ground by the referee was before tho Union. Ho frankly admitted his fault, and was informed that if it ocourred again he would bo more severely dealt with, but no further penalty was imposed. Another player who was cautioned by the referee was put on the Caution List.
It 'Was resolved that all referees and o Inangahua sub-Union should he advised with regard to the abolition of the wing forward. Tho rule reads as follows“ Free kicks, by way of penalties shall be awarded (a) if any player not in a scrummage, advances beyond a line drawn through the back of his own scrummage parallel with the goal line before the ball comes out of such scrummage, and (b) if any player in a scrummage breaks away before the ball comes out of such scrummage.”
A protest was received from the United Club against Stars on account of a match b.eing played under the amended rules. It was resolved that the protest be thrown out, as the amend ed rules were adopted by this Union previous to the match being played. It was decided that Mr Henry be appointed Manager of the Rep. team travelling to Reefton on Saturday next. Tho question of appointing a captain of the team was left in the hands of the Selection Committee. The -fixtures made for next Saturday were:—3rd 'Grade, Marist v. iCobden, Park, 3 p.m., referee, Mr. Oxenliam; 4th Grade, Stars v. United, Park, 1.30 p.m., referee, Mr Anderson.
