THE KAISER’S TRIAL.
A FIZZLE OUT LIKELY. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION} LONDON, July 9. The “Manchester Guardian” says: There are signs in familifir channels, that the trial of the ex-Kaiser may be dropped. The Paris newspapers are suggesting that Britain alone is demanding - the Kaiser’s extradition on behalf of the Allies.
Mr Bonar Law in the House of Commons, said: “Every step is being taken to prevent the escape of the ex-Kaiser.” Berlin messages state that Prince Henry of Prussia has telegraphed to King George denying his brother’s responsibility for beginning the war and also appealing to King George “in the name of Justice,” not to proceed with the extradition demand.
Prince Henry, in the same message offers himself to assist in elucidating the causes of the war.
The “Daily Chronicle’s” Berlin correspondent reports there are thousands of men and women offering to act as substitutes at a trial for the exKaiser. These include Prince Freidrich Wilhelm of Lippe. Societies are being formed in Germany to prevent the trial of any German as war criminals.
