HOKITIKA’S GOOD FORTUNE.

A MUSICAL TREAT. A -MUSICAL TREAT COMING, Wc learn from a reliable source that Hokitika is in the way of realising a piece of remarkable good fortune in the not future. The Regimental Band of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade will be returning from England in a month or so, and the full membership of the Band has expressed an ardent desire to pay a visit to Hokitika where some of the members of the band belong. The Regimental Band is a very fine one, and has played in most of the principal cities of England, The band-master is an cx-Wost Coaster and took part successfully in the last Band contest held in Hokitika. Another prominent member of the Band is Mr C. B. Ross of this town. ■ The proposal to invite the Band and arrange for their travelling and expenses to the Coast will be put before an early meeting of citizens. The Band will supply musical entertainments as desired including a daylight concert at the Hokitika race-course, and a night concert at the Princess Theatre, as well as matinee performances for the entertainment of country visitors. These entertainments will enable the visit to he made without any cost to the organisers, in fact should return a substantial profit which will be devoted to some patriotic object. It is understood that while-here the visiting Band will band to the Hokitika Municipal Band a special set of silver hand instruments lor the use of the local Band. Lieut.-Col. Shepherd, D. 5.0.. who enlisted from Hokitika with the Main Body, and left as a lieutenant, is returning as officer-in-charge of the troopship carrying the Band, and has interested himself in the visit to Hokitika, for which, however, the sanction of the Defence Minister will he required. It is to he hoped this important formality

will bo attended to satisfactorily, and the people of this district given the opportunity of hearing so line a hand as the Regimental Hand of the New Zealand Riilo Brigade.
