CZECHS AND HUNGARIANS. PARIS, June 15.
The latest news from Central Europe shows that the position of the Czechoslovaks is becoming serious, as they are obviously not strong enough to with stand the Hungarian Bolsheviks, who are now attacking.
It is urged that they are greatly*A need of help. The action of the Peace Conference in stopping the advance of tlio Roumanians recently, when they practically had Budapesth in their grasp, and where the whole regime of Belakun, tlie head of the Hungarian Soviet Government, was tottering, has accentuated the gravity of the Czech’s position.
The Peace 'Conference have now telegraphed to the Hungarians, telling them to stop their hostilities, and threatening them with extreme measures if the request is not complied with.
The Council have also referred the question to their military experts. 31. Clemenceau, French Premier favours the dispatch of French and Roumanian troops, who are now in southern Hungary, against the Hungarians, but President Wilson and Mr Lloyd George urge a policy of temporising.
REPORTED CZECHS’ VICTORY
OVER HUNGARIAN TROOPS. (Received this day at 9.20 a.m.) VIENNA, June 16,
An unconfirmed report from the Press Bureau states that the Czechoslovaks, assisted by French Colonial troops, won a decisive victory at Susohl breaking the Hungarian front and inflicting heavy losses, thereby imperilling tlie Hungarian retreat.
