SOUTHERN TRIP.

S.S. PAEROA

After loading and waiting several days for favourable conditions the Paeroa left Hokitika at 7.15. a.m. on Monday June 9th. meeting a choppy south-west swell, arriving at Bruce Bay and dropping anchor at 8 p.m. same day the weather being thick and showery.

On Tuesday morning June 10th started to land cargo, shoremen helping with their own surf boat. The weather was getting bad, so did 1 , not finish unloading.

At 3 o’clock hove up the anchor and proceeded out to sea in the teeth of a W.N.W. sale, the ship labouring heavily in the heavy sea. The weather was had with tuick and showery squalls. '('lie, following morning June 11th. picked up Arnott Point. The wind then came from the south west, and we headed back for Bruce Bay anchoring at 3.20. a.m. and shifted steamer in close to beach for unloading which was finished by 3.30. in the afternoon. On Thursday,. June 12th. got away from Bruce Bay by 9.15. a.m. arriving off Okuru at 2.30. p.m. Proceeded out to the island anchorage until 8.30. that evening when we steamed for Okuru crossing the bar at 10. o’clock, finding a good, deep and straight channel. On Friday, .June 13th., finished unloading and Saturday got ship ready for a load from Nolan Bros, of sheep. All day a north-east gale was blowing with heavy rain and sea. On Sunday, June 15th. got slice]] on board and crossed the Okuru bar at noon beading for Hokitika, calling in at Bruce Bay for two passengers and leaving again at (i p.m. Had a moderate. S.W. swell all the way arriving off Hokitika at 7.30 J a.m. on Monday morning crossing the bar at noon. Passengers.—Messrs Jas Cuttance and D. McPherson and Mrs Jas. Harris.
