A fatal accident occurred at Bunny- i tliorpe railway crossing this afternoon, j A spring cart driven by' Ronald Poder-j son, son of a widow farmer on the Ro-j bertson line, and containing three other ! children, was crossing the line when the Now Plymouth train collided with, it. The horse was killed instantly.. The cart was completely wrecked. j Jean Pedersen, the youngest of the children, aged 8, was decapitated. Alex Pederson. aged 14, sustained a iracturcd skull, and had his left leg' fractured, and nearly servered. Ronald aged Kl, had his skull injured and thumb ■fractured. * Phyllis' aged ;L I, was thrown clear. "Alex is not expected to recover.
The crossing was an open one, and giving a full view of the engine. The driver of the engine says he blew his whistle and the children tried to back off the line, but were too late.
