The ordinary meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place last evening. PresentHis’ Worship the Mayor, (S., P. Evans, Esq.), Councill.orc 51. Linstroni, 51. sfoye, A. W. Upjohn, F. Moore, SV. B. Browning, W. Hamilton.
The minutes of the previous were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was i pproved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Hokitika High School Board, asking for representative to be app.cuted.—Received, resolved to ask Mr. T. W. Bruce to act.
From Treasury, asking for copies of balance, sheet for last year.—Received, same to be forwarded when audited. From Gisborne Borough Council, asking co-operation in endeavouring to have Municipal rolls made up from Parliamentary rolls.—Received. From Runanaga Borough Council, asking support of this Council in having new coal mine opened up at Nine Mile.—Received. Resolved to support same.
Front Department of Public Health, forwarding certificates for voluntary workers in connection with recent epidemic.—Received. Front Minister of Internal Affairs, notifying days on which Peace celebrations should be hold.—Received. From Government Statistician, askink for’ matter to be' contained in Municipal Handbook. —Received. Already supplied. From Department of Internal Affairs acknowledging receipt tf notification of election of S. P. Evans, Esq. ns Mayor.—Received.
From Land and Survey Office, asking approval of closing old slont D’or Road and opening an adjoining road.—Approved. From A. Buchanan, tendering his re-, signation as a Councillor, owing to leaving the district.—Received and accepted, and referred to Returning Officer.
Or. Linstrom moved, and Or. Moye seconded, that the Council apply to Bank of N.Z. for the usual overdraft not exceeding £soo.—Carried. The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £67 9s 4d, which were passed for payment. The Treasurer’s statement showed the debit balance to be £35 14s 7d. The Public Works Committee reported, since last meeting the main streets lia;d. been thoroughly cleaned, a number of leaking fire plugs repaired, and some repairs made to water races.— Received and approved. Applications for the position of Borough maintenance man at 1-s per day were received from the following:—H. Hende, S. Teague, J. M. Allan, J. Jones, A. Hedwig, and N. J. Phillips. The number were reduced to three by ballot, result.— Hedwig, Hende, and Jones. This was further reduced to Hedwig and Hende. A final reduction to one resulted in Hedwig 4, llende 3. A. Hedwig was appointed. The meeting then terminated.
