DAME MELBA ARRIVES.
LONDON, March 24
When Dame Nellie Melba, wearing a heavy moleskin fur coat, disembarked at Liverpool yesterday from the Cunard liner Caronia from New York, spow was falling and a friend handed her a handful. '
“Thank you,” said Dame Melba with a smile. “This is the lirst English snow I have seen for four years,” and straight way she rubbed the snow on her cheeks, “just for luck.” 1 “I have, never been prouder of being' a Briton than I am to-day,” she said. • During the war Dame Melba has lived in Australia and the U.S.A., having visited the latter country on three occasions. By her singing slip has raised ’ nearly £IOO,OOO for the British Rod, Cross. Sho remarked: “I have done mv bit, and I am going to continue do- J jug it while il is necessary. Now I .itu going to remain in England. The Co-. vent Garden season opens on May sth., ‘ and I am going to have my first big concert at the Albert Hall on May lit i I have lost many dear friends in Hip war, and I am full of emotion.”
